Learn about Lake Worth, FL

Lake Worth, FL takes its name from what is now known as the Lake Worth Lagoon, which is named after General William J. Worth, the leader of the US forces during the end of the Second Seminole War. Settlers built their community along the shores of Lake Worth Lagoon in 1885. The town that grew was eventually incorporated in June 1913, where many of its residents were farmers from other parts of the south and the mid-west.

Lake Avenue, the city’s main street, has some of the oldest commercial structures in southern Florida, including the Lake Worth Playhouse. Lake Worth also has numerous public parks and open spaces for recreational activities. The latest one to open is the Snook Islands Recreation Boardwalk in 2012 and offers activities such as kayaking, nature walks around the mangroves and a fishing pier where one can view a variety of marine animal life.
