The Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse as seen from Lighthouse Point, Florida

Lighthouse Point is a city in Broward County in the state of Florida. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area, which has a population of more than 5.5 million. The city proper itself is home to around 10,800 residents.

The city’s history began when Juliette Becker built the first home in the area in 1947. Back then, what is now Lighthouse Point is mainly a combination of fertile farmlands and mangrove swamps. Four years later, in 1951, the first acreage was acquired for development by R.E. Batemen. The community’s first civic association was formed in 1953, and in 1956, the residents voted to formally incorporate their neighborhood. In 1957, Lighthouse Point received its charter and officially became a city.

The city’s name comes from the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse, which is situated in nearby Hillsboro Beach.
