Learn about North Miami Beach, FL

The skyline of North Miami Beach, Florida

Commonly called NMB, North Miami Beach is a Miami suburb located in Miami-Dade County in the state of Florida. The city is home to over 43,200 residents.

North Miami Beach was originally incorporated as the city of Fulford in 1927. The community was named in honor of Captain William H. Fulford, who once served in the United States Coast Guard. In 1931, the city adopted its present name, North Miami Beach.

There are a number of popular tourist attractions in the city, including the St. Bernard de Clairvaux Church, which is an actual Medieval Spanish Monastery that was originally built in the 12th century in Segovia, Spain. The American newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst purchased it in the 1920s, had it dismantled, and then it was shipped to the United States. It was rebuilt in North Miami Beach in the 1950s after Hearst passed away.

North Miami Beach is also home to the historic Fulford-by-the-Sea Monument, a fountain built in 1925, as well as The Mall at 163rd Street, a retail center that first opened in 1956.
