Learn about Wellington, FL

A boardwalk at the Wellington Environmental Preserve in Wellington, Florida

The village of Wellington in Palm Beach County, Florida, is one of the most successful master-planned communities in Southern Florida. It is known for its many parks, top-rated schools, beautiful neighborhoods, and its equestrian heritage. As of 2013, the village had more than 60,200 residents.

Wellington’s history began when Charles Oliver Wellington purchased over 16,000 acres of land that became the future site of the settlement. Development of the land, however, did not begin until after 1971, when the Wellington family sold 7,400 acres of their property to the Investment Corporation of Florida (ICOF). In 1972, ICOF formed a partnership with Alcoa Aluminum to begin the establishment of a new community. Soon, hundreds of homes were sold to new homeowners. The village was incorporated only in 1995.

Today, Wellington is a thriving and affluent community. The village is also an international hub of equestrian sports, hosting prestigious events like the USPA Piaget Gold Cup and the Nespresso U.S. Polo Open. It is the site of the International Polo Club Palm Beach.
