Learn About Palm Beach, FL
Palm Beach is a barrier island town located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Separated from the mainland towns of Lake Worth and West Palm Beach by the long strip of Lake Worth Lagoon, the town is currently home to more than 8,600 residents. The population can grow to more than three times the official figures due to the seasonal influx of tourists.
Palm Beach was founded in the early 20th century by Henry Morrison Flagler. He was responsible for the building of the Florida East Coast Railway, which made the Atlantic barrier island accessible from the mainland.
Before the town was incorporated in 1911, Flagler first built the Royal Poinciana Hotel in 1894 and the Breakers Hotel in 1896. While the former was destroyed during the Great Depression, the latter still stands up to this day and is now a historic landmark in the city.
